Steps to Take if Your Homeschool Student Has no Official Records

Admissions

At Enlightium Academy, we strive to place our students in appropriate courses suitable for their strengths, while remaining academically challenging. Therefore, determining each student’s academic standing is important for proper course placement. Entrance assessments and student records help counselors in this process, but what if your student was homeschooled and there are no official records?

PreK - 8 Grades

If you have homeschool records, it is recommended that you use our PreK-8th grade homeschool template to provide the following information and documents:

  • The title of the course/subject/topic
  • The curriculum used: the publication, title, author, and edition (per each core subject: English, math, history, and science)
  • The final grades for each course, or include pass/fail if no actual grade was awarded
  • Documentation of how much work was completed (for example: quarter, semester, year, or 8/10 units)
  • An immunization record or exemption if required by your state
  • A birth certificate or passport. This is to verify your student’s age and is the recommended document to be provided for previously homeschooled students
  • If you used the PACES program, please attach information on how many PACES were completed and the total number of PACES per subject. This will allow Enlightium’s team to determine how much was completed overall

9-12 Grades:

The requirements for high school students are much more strict due to credit verification. Enlightium Academy cannot award credit for homeschooled courses without evidence that the course was successfully completed with a passing score.

It is recommended that you use our high school homeschool template. Provide the following information and documents:

  • The title of the course/subject/topic
  • The curriculum used: the publication, title, author, and edition (per each core subject: English, math, history, and science)
  • The units (chapters) that were covered in each core subject: English, math, history, and science
  • An estimate on the number of hours spent for each core subject: English, math, history, and science)
  • The final grades for each subject
  • At least three samples of completed work in each subject
    • Examples include copies of tests, quizzes, assignments, and projects
  • A copy of a state test results, if completed

Enrolling Without Transcripts?

As a Washington State-approved private school, Enlightium Academy follows the guidance from Washington guidelines on how to award credit to students that do not have records from their previous schooling or whose records/evidence of work are insufficient to award credit.

If your student is enrolling with partial or no report card/transcript, keep the following in mind:

  1. Good parent-to-school communication is very important when evaluating the previous curriculum.
  2. Please respond to school emails and/or phone calls in a timely manner so that your student can be placed in the appropriate courses in a timely manner.
  3. Properly placing students without transcripts can be a time-consuming process, no matter where you enroll. Please allow your student’s counselor the time they need to review all documentation.

Enlightium Academy is a private Christian online school that serves homeschooling families by offering a Bible-based, flexible, accredited, teacher-supported, and affordable education from the comfort of your home.
